Are you a highly sensitive person (HSP)?
I’ve been on a hunt lately to find any and all articles referencing this – ever since I found out that I exhibit all the signs associated with this personality trait. In fact, about 20% of us are HSPs.

And no, it really doesn’t have that much to do with crying, even though that’s the perception people have when they hear this term for the first time.
For me, it means that I absorb people’s emotions almost instantly. I can sit in a room, in silence, and know exactly what each person is going through without even saying a word to them. It’s as if I’m pulling the feelings out of them and infusing them into my system.
It’s overwhelming. I’m not only dealing with my own emotions and issues, but I take on everyone else’s as well.
This is why for soooo many years at work, I just wasn’t able to function at my best.
Every off word said, side glance, or flat reply, got me spiraling out of control in my mind.
What did THAT mean?
Is she MAD at me?
Did I SAY something wrong?
These thoughts would eat me up inside and wouldn’t let me sleep.
I’ve only recently realized that I’m an HSP, which is unfortunate because I could have used this knowledge many eons ago when I felt insanely off compared to others around me.
Now, if my own husband looks at me sideways, I’m like, “HEY, I’M AN HSP AND THAT’S WHY I CRY AT PUBLIX COMMERCIALS”. Leave me alone.
