I spent my birthday alone on purpose.

When my husband asked me what I wanted for my birthday this year, I knew immediately what it was.

After the year that I had, going through lockdowns, moving countries, living with my in-laws, and my parents, I was DESPERATE for some peace and quiet. I had the perfect excuse of COVID to not have a party, so I settled for what I actually wanted to do.

Now, I’ve never been someone who enjoys hosting parties or being the center of attention (hey guys come shower me with gifts!), so I didn’t feel like I was missing out on anything. I was actually super glad I didn’t have to stand awkwardly while everyone sang happy birthday to me. I was more than happy to skip that part. The second year in a row.

So, after struggling mentally with the idea, I went through with it.

And I made a video detailing the entire process from beginning to end. It’s more than just how I decided to spend my day, it’s giving you an inside look at the struggle I had and the 3 reasons why I eventually pushed myself to do it.

Watch the video to find out the 3 reasons why I spent my birthday alone.

Now, I realize I’m in a privileged position to CHOOSE to spend my birthday alone and to actually be able to go out and do what I wanted, so I am beyond grateful for the opportunity. I know many people are not afforded this. But if you do find yourself alone on your birthday, and not by choice, just know that it’s up to you to own it and do something that brings you joy.

Be fully grateful you’re alive to experience it.

That’s what it comes down to. Appreciating your very existence and honoring it.
